The Manchester City record goalscorer was again absent in Saturday’s derby against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Pep Guardiola revealed Sergio Aguero suffered a stomach problem in the build-up to the Manchester derby and added the striker will be sidelined for a ‘short time’ until he has returned to full fitness.

The Manchester City manager offered no date on when Aguero may return, but his absence has been greatly felt.

The 32-year-old, who has scored a club-record 256 goals in 375 appearances, has struggled with injuries for most of 2020. He had, though, been in contention for a return on Saturday until a stomach upset.

City proceeded to draw 0-0 against Manchester United and struggled to exert any serious threat in attack without Aguero.

“We miss Sergio, but for the last six months, not just today, he was injured a lot of times,” said Guardiola in his post-match conference.

“One step at a time, he still isn’t fit.

“Other players are working hard. Today he had a problem in his stomach and couldn’t make a session. He was at home.

“Of course, we miss Sergio, he is the best striker in Manchester City’s history.

“In the next short time, we will go without him and I am sure when he is fit, he will be back.”

City will next welcome West Brom to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday for another Premier League match.
