As a response to Mourinho’s earlier praise, Pep Guardiola spoke about his confrontation against the Portuguese manager this weekend.

This weekend’s match between Guardiola and Mourinho marks the 25th time the two managers meet. A lot has happened between the first and the next time they will face each other. Mou already spoke about the good memories he shares of the Catalan manager from the time they shared at FC Barcelona. However, there’s a dark side we are all familiar with that fueled one of the biggest rivalries in football history. While the whole world was busy watching the Messi vs Ronaldo confrontation.

Pep and Mou were having their own historic rivalry at the same time. This weekend, both managers face each other again with a clear favorite as always. Pep Guardiola has the upper hand against Mourinho from all the times they played each other. Manchester City currently sits with 15 consecutive victories in all competitions and the last time they lost was against the Spurs. The table is set for another historic night between these two legendary managers.

Guardiola recalls his rivalry with Mourinho.

When this rivalry between the two managers started in 2009, Guardiola was barely starting his career as a pro. Jose had already won the Champions League with Porto and completely changed history at Chelsea. Since then, both managers lived through battles we will never forget. Pep recalls how it all started as he tries to put the current unbeaten run to the side.

In a press conference picked up by Marca, this is what Pep said: “We’re pretty much the same than we were back in 2009. It means that we have been working many years so it is good for both of us. We do the job we love, and they are a good contender. It’s a coincidence. We lost because they were better. They were better in many aspects. Spurs’ quality showed more than our qualities and that is why they beat us. They are a strong team and we have to do better to beat them.”
