In an interview with Rio Ferdinand, Pep Guardiola opened up about the privilege he feels to coach in the English Premier League.

At this point of his career, Pep Guardiola coaching in England is the epitome of a dream managerial career. Even though he started on the right foot at FC Barcelona, the UK is in no way comparable to Spain or Germany. Pep may have succeeded with his two previous clubs but doing it at the highest level league is something different. The culture, the attention to detail from the FA. Everything that combines to keep this competition the best in the world is what appealed to Pep the most.

Finding success here is the ultimate goal for any manager and Pep is doing it with relative ease. Should he win the UEFA Champions League with Manchester City, nobody will deny him the recognition as the best manager in football history. Yes, I said it! Pep can even be better than Sir Alex Ferguson if he wins the ultimate competition while coaching the Citizens. The man knows how privileged he is for getting the chance to coach in England.

Pep loves coaching in Shakespeare’s country.

During an extended interview with Rio Ferdinand on BT Sport, Pep revealed how thrilled he was at the thought of coaching in the Premier League. But more importantly, he loves the way he doesn’t get as much scrutiny as he did in other countries: “I was incredibly happy in my hometown in Barcelona and at Bayern Munich, you can’t imagine… the club, the city. I am a privileged guy to have been there. But here, after four or five years I feel so good.

“I have always had the feeling, the dream to come here, to train in the [William] Shakespeare country, in the Beatles’ country, in Oasis country, the theatres, the movies. This country is special for many, many, many reasons and I wanted to live this. I hate November, December, January and February in England because I would like better weather, but I have everything [I need] to do my job, that is the reason why I extended my contract.”
