After his comments about Man City’s wealth, Pep Guardiola wanted to clarify his comments and defend himself from any type of criticism.

Pep Guardiola is getting destroyed by the press for allegedly bragging about Man City’s immense wealth. What he did during this week’s press conference is considered politically incorrect due to his role inside a football club that is practically managed by a country. In some cases, some thought his words were actually a distasteful joke. But Guardiola doubled down on his statement earlier today.

He stated the obvious and responded to his critics in a single press conference. There are many clubs that spend a lot more money than Manchester City does but he doesn’t shy away from his side’s decision. Basically, you need top players in order to win titles in the modern era. The best players in the world cost a lot of money and Manchester City made sure they made the investment.

Guardiola doesn’t mind the criticism.

If spending this money will bring criticism against him or Manchester City, Pep Guardiola can live with it: “We have this story behind us it will always be with us,” Guardiola said ahead of the clash with West Ham via Goal. “Not just one journalist but many say the only reason why we is because of the money, it should be true, we can accept it. There are other clubs that spent and have higher budgets than us. That’s come for us. I would say, we were not there, in the last 30 or 40 years playing with elite clubs.

“When United won it was because they spent more money than the other ones the same with Barcelona and Madrid. I don’t feel we are much different to the top elite clubs in the world in those terms but we have to accept it and do the best job we can.” Knowing how the media reacts to these stories, it wouldn’t be a surprise if we read another puff piece about how Pep laughed off the critics.
