After a stellar performance against the Bees on Wednesday night, Phil Foden received heaps of praises from Pep Guardiola.

Pep Guardiola urged that Phil Foden has nothing to prove at Manchester City after his brilliant performance against Brentford on Wednesday night.

The Cityzens managed to beat the Bees by 1-0 thanks to Foden’s calm and composed finish in the 16th minute. Guardiola’s side consequently shifted eight points clear at the top of the table.

The Spanish boss typically praised Foden for marking his return to the starting XI with a stand-out display. Apparently, Phil and Jack Grealish were caught pictured on a night out together.

This made several staff members unhappy, and as a result, Guardiola had to drop both stars from their game against Newcastle.

After last night’s game, Pep was asked if Foden had to prove himself against Brentford. He said: “Absolutely not. He doesn’t have to prove anything to me.”

“He has to prove to himself he enjoys football like he enjoys it as a little boy. This is the most important thing.”

“Foden has always been outstanding since he came up with us to start to train and play. He can play in different positions and always plays at an exceptional level. He is a really incredible player and we don’t have any doubts about that.”
