Manchester City clinch a hard-fought victory to extend their lead on top of the table.

Manchester City defeated Brentford in their Premier League game on Wednesday. The Citizens won their tenth consecutive league game while Brentford put up a good fight.

A crucial victory!

Manchester City tried to dominate the possession early on, but Brentford refused to remain in their own half. They even had decent chances to score, but they could prevent the Citizens from getting the opener.

Following an inch-perfect assist from Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden put City ahead with a clinical finish from close range. When City lead a game 1-0 in the 15 minutes, you expect to see a one-sided match from thereon.

However, Brentford were too good to fight for a decent loss. The Bees kept attacking, but they were not able to find the back of the net. On the other hand, City came close to extending their lead. However, the lack of a clinical striker was more evident than ever as they struggled to convert their chances.

Following Chelsea’s 1-1 draw against Brighton, Man City are now eight points clear on top of the table. Pep Guardiola’s side will face fourth-placed Arsenal in their next league game on Saturday.

On the other hand, Brentford remain in 14th place after the defeat. Next up for the Bees is a game against Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa.
