The World Cup winner has been far from the player he used to be ever since swapping Wanda Metropolitano for Camp Nou in 2019.

Antoine Griezmann should have never signed for FC Barcelona, that is the opinion of his fellow Frenchman Jeremy Mathieu.

Griezmann has been in fine form since the turn of the year, contributing seven goals and eight assists in 15 games across all competitions for Barcelona so far in 2021.

However, that’s not to say the forward has been consistently delivering on the expectations since his transfer to the club in the summer of 2019, especially considering his massive €120 million price tag.

The 2018 World Cup winner is far from the player he used to be at Atletico Madrid, and there have even been suggestions that Barca are ready to sanction his sale.

With Griezmann not really hitting top form, the Catalan giants are keen on adding more firepower and have been linked with the signing of the likes of Sergio Aguero, Lautaro Martinez, and Memphis Depay.

“Griezmann is not at his Atletico level,” Mathieu told in an interview for Catalan radio station RAC1.

“Personally, in my opinion, it is a mistake that he came to Barcelona.

“At Atletico, he was a very important piece and I don’t know if he has that importance at Barcelona.”
