Former Premier League striker Gabriel Agbonlahor held nothing back in his criticism of the under-fire Blues boss.

Chelsea manager Graham Potter deserves the sack for his post-match comments in the 1-0 defeat to Southampton, according to Gabriel Agbonlahor.

The 47-year-old Englishman fell to his ninth defeat in charge of Chelsea after 25 games (W9 D7) on Saturday. To add insult to injury, the Blues lost 1-0 at home to a manager-less Southampton; a team that ranks bottom of the Premier League table.

Potter later said it was ‘difficult’ to deal with the squad changes he had to make against a ‘team that is well prepared’.

“Potter should be sacked for that post-match interview,” said ex-Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor on talkSPORT.

“What’s he talking about? You’re playing against a team that are in disarray, they’ve not got a manager, [and] they can’t get back-to-back wins together.

“And you’re complaining that you’ve had to bring [Mykhailo] Mudryk off the bench, you’ve had to start [Joao] Felix, Are you joking me?”

Chelsea return to Premier League action this coming Sunday for a London derby away to Tottenham. The Blues are 10th in the standings, 11 points behind their fourth-placed opponents.
