Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud has dropped an hint about his future at the club following an impressive four goals against Sevilla.
Olivier Giroud stole the headlines on Wednesday night after Chelsea’s 4-0 victory over Sevilla in the Champions League.
The Frenchman scored all four goals and became the oldest player to score a hatrick in the Champions League since Puskas in 1965.
He also became the first to score four against a single club in the competition since Cristiano Ronaldo against Malmo in 2015.
Prior to this game, there have been talks that Giroud could leave the club with the forward not getting enough game-time as he wants. France boss Deschamps even urged him to consider a move elsewhere as well.
The Frenchman finds himself below Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham in the pecking order for Frank Lampard.
Following his four-goal show against Sevilla, Giroud has now mentioned that he is happy to remain ‘patient’ and wait for his chance.
“It’s always nice to be a part of club history,” he said as per the club’s website.
“You play football to write great stories. I’m proud. I had great assists from my team-mates and I just tried to finish the job.”
“When I’m on the pitch I’m the happiest man. I just try to be patient, keep the faith and bring something else to the team. It is always special to play in the Champions League and it was an important game to finish first in the group, so I’m pleased to help the team to win.”
Chelsea are now on an 11-game unbeaten run and Giroud says the Blues are going all out in all competitions.
“Our ambition is to compete with the best teams in the Premier League, and in the Champions League to go as far as we can. We have shown we have a great squad and we can count on a lot of talented players. It will give us the opportunity to play in both competitions.”
“We are doing a great job and we need to keep the momentum up. It’s been a long time we have missed our fans. Football is not the same sport, the passion is not the same without fans, so we are looking forward to Saturday and hope we have a nice welcome for them.”
