The Black and Yellows missed out on the Bundesliga title on the season’s final day.

Giovanni Reyna has apologized to Borussia Dortmund fans for letting the Bundesliga trophy “slip away”.

Dortmund came into the Bundesliga’s final day as the clear favourites to win the title. The Black and Yellows had a golden chance to end Bayern Munich’s ten-year reign in the German top flight.

However, an unexpected home draw against Mainz saw Dortmund miss out on the trophy. Bayern Munich claimed another league title through Jamal Musiala’s late match-winner against Koln.

It was in our hands and we let something we worked so hard for, slip away,” he wrote on Instagram

“Remember that setbacks are a part of life, and even though it may be tough right now, it’s important to keep pushing forward and learn from the experience. Sorry to the fans and city of Dortmund but we can’t thank you enough for the incredible support shown throughout all the ups and downs.”

Since joining Dortmund from NYCFC Academy in 2019, Reyna has developed into one of the most promising midfielders in the Bundesliga.

Last season, the USMNT star made 22 appearances for the Black and Yellows, registering seven goals and two assists. However, he struggled for regular playing time at Dortmund after his controversial World Cup campaign with the USA.
