Steven Gerrard is closing in on an agreement to take over Aston Villa.
Steven Gerrard is on the verge of joining Aston Villa as their new manager.
The Villa sacked Dean Smith after five consecutive defeats last week. The club are only two points above the relegation zone, trying to find a new coach to take over the survival project.
According to 90min, Gerrard has asked for permission from Rangers to start his negotiation with the Villa. Thanks to the Liverpool legend’s close relationship with Villa CEO Christian Purslow, the parties will most likely reach an agreement soon. Sources close to the club are confident the club will announce the new coach by the end of this week.
Gerrard has spent a successful spell at Rangers, winning their first league trophy in ten years. The English manager is ready to take the next step in his career, with Villa being a hard-enough challenge.
Having collected ten points from their 11 matches, Villa sit 16th in the Premier League. Gerrard will face a tough test to improve his new side while spending his debut managerial season in the English top-flight.
Aston Villa will play against Brighton on Saturday 20 November. It remains to be seen whether the match will mark Gerrard’s return to Premier League.
