The pair were both unused substitutes as Real Madrid crashed out of the Copa del Rey on Thursday.
Gareth Bale couldn’t hide a laugh, as teammate Eden Hazard was sent back to the bench during Real Madrid’s 1-0 Copa del Rey quarter-final defeat to Athletic Club.
Hazard had prepared himself for a late cameo, only for manager Carlo Ancelotti to send him back to the bench. As he made his way back to his seat, Bale had a small chuckle at his expense.
Spanish TV network ‘El Chiringuito’ caught the moment between the pair at the San Mames.

Ancelotti explains substitute decisions
Instead of Hazard, Ancelotti brought on Eduardo Camavinga to replace a tired Toni Kroos. He made a similar decision by introducing Isco for Vinicius Junior earlier in the match. However, had it not been for Alex Berenguer’s 89th-minute winning strike, the manager hinted he may have brought on Hazard in extra time.
“I took Kroos off for Camavinga due to fatigue. The Vinicius and Isco switch was [also] down to fatigue,” Ancelotti told reporters after the match.
“I had more chances, and I was planning to use them in extra time. Unfortunately, they scored in the last minute and I didn’t get time to put other guys on.”
Between them, Bale and Hazard have made a combined 17 appearances in LaLiga this season and scored just one goal.
