A defender who rose through the youth ranks at La Masia before moving to England in 2017 is returning back to his roots.
Eric Garcia has confirmed his “brave decision” to swap Manchester City for Barcelona at the end of 2020/21.
20-year-old Garcia has managed to build his reputation as one of the most talented young center-backs ever despite intense competition for a spot in the heart of the Manchester City backline barely allowing him any time on the pitch.
Facing competition from Ruben Dias, John Stones, Aymeric Laporte, Nathan Ake, the Spaniard has been able to make just 10 appearances all season.
The La Masia graduate would be expecting his situation improves when he returns to familiar surroundings next season, having decided to join Barcelona on a free transfer after rejecting Man City contract extension offer.
“I have thought about my future, what I think is the best now,” reflected Garcia on his decision to quit Man City, talking to L’Esportiu.
“I think it’s a brave decision. I am very convinced of the step I have taken.”
One of Garcia’s Man City teammates is expected to follow in his footsteps this summer, with Sergio Aguero heavily linked with a move to the Camp Nou.
Garcia added on Aguero: “He is a phenomenon and a goal-scoring machine.
“Who has an age? Forget it! Aguero will score goals until the age of 100, he is a legend, a myth. And a fabulous teammate.”
