Arsenal move a step closer to two new signings

Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale are on the verge of completing transfers to Arsenal.

Odegaard has completed his medical and agreed on personal terms after Arsenal struck a £30 million (€35m) deal with Real Madrid, along with bonuses worth £4m. As the 22-year-old is double vaccinated, he won’t have to isolate. But chances of the midfielder facing Chelsea on Sunday are low as his visa application process is still ongoing.

Ramsdale, on the other hand, is close to sealing a £24m (€28m) transfer from Sheffield United. The 23-year-old could join Mikel Arteta’s squad for Sunday’s game. If he becomes the club’s No.1 goalkeeper long-term, Arsenal may have to pay another £6m in add-ons. [Sky Sports]

Lingard braced for Man United exit

Unless Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plays him regularly this season, Jesse Lingard is prepared to leave Manchester United.

The 28-year-old missed the club’s final pre-season friendly and Premier League opener against Leeds after testing positive for COVID-19. He is back in training and hopes to face Southampton on Sunday.

West Ham have expressed an interest in signing Lingard permanently after the midfielder’s impressive loan spell in London last season. [Times – subscription required]
