Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has admitted defender Fikayo Tomori might be allowed to leave the club on loan in the January window.

Frank Lampard has confirmed Fikayo Tomori could be set for a loan spell this month.

The defender has struggled for game time this season after making his breakthrough to the first team last term.

Tomori has seen only 234 minutes of action across all competitions for the Blues under Frank Lampard this season.

The Chelsea boss remains hopeful the 23-year-old will be able to stake a claim in the first-team setup at Stamford Bridge.

However, Lampard opting to leave Tomori out of his starting line-up against Morecambe showed just how far the defender has dropped in the pecking order.

Despite an injury to Andreas Christensen, Lampard opted to play Kurt Zouma and Antonio Rudiger for the 4-0 FA Cup third-round win on Sunday.

Tomori only managed to get 10 minutes of action after coming on for Kurt Zouma in the latter stages of the game.

Speaking after the game, Frank Lampard gave an update on the player’s future at the club.

“The situation with Fikayo is open at the moment,” the Chelsea boss said to the club’s website.

“There’s a possibility that he could be going on loan to get games somewhere else but that has to be right solution for him and the club.”

“He was part of my thinking to start today but we’re looking at that. His attitude has been fantastic in terms of training every day and how he is because it’s not easy when we have five center-backs at the club.”

Leeds and West Ham are the reported sides interested in Tomori and the player could now be set for a loan spell if Lampard sanctions his departure this January.
