The former Milan midfielder has joined the Catalans on a free transfer.

Franck Kessie has expressed his excitement over his transfer to Barcelona, revealing he draws inspiration from Ivorian legend Yaya Toure.

Following a stellar spell at Milan that ended with last season’s Scudetto-winning campaign, Kessie will now start a new chapter in his career.

The Ivory Coast international has mentioned his countryman Yaya Toure in his first interview at the club.

He told the club’s official website: “I’m a player who works very hard. I give everything on the pitch and work hard every day to be able to win things.

“About me, the coach will decide my position on the pitch. He’ll know where I can help the team best.

“My idol is Yaya Toure. He’s a great player from the Ivory Coast, like myself.

“I had the pleasure of playing with him in the national team. I would like to have such a great career as his.”

Toure played for the Catalans between 2007 and 2010. His incredible performance in the 2009 Champions League final established his reputation among the best midfielders in Europe. Only a year later, he joined Manchester City, where he became a club legend.

Kessie has joined Barca on a four-year deal, which includes a €500m release clause. Let’s see if the Ivorian can emulate Toure’s impressive career at Camp Nou.
