The last year’s winner will compete against two PSG players for the prestigious prize.

FIFA have announced Kylian Mbappe, Karim Benzema, and Lionel Messi are the finalists for The Best FIFA Men’s Player award 2022.

Coaches, captains, journalists and fans have all voted to select this year’s finalists. FIFA then announced the players with the most votes on Friday.

The governing body asked the voters to judge the players’ performances between August 8, 2021, and December 18, 2022.

As a result, Benzema will compete against World Cup finalists Messi and Mbappe for the award.

The two PSG teammates faced off in the World Cup final, where Messi finally fulfilled his dream of lifting the trophy with Argentina.

Despite France’s defeat in the final, Mbappe won the tournament’s Golden Boot after scoring a hat-trick against Argentina. The 24-year-old has already climbed to sixth place in the tournament’s all-time goalscoring charts.

Benzema missed the World Cup with an injury and went on to end his international career altogether after the tournament. But that didn’t stop fans from considering his wonderful performances for Real Madrid last year.

The Best awards ceremony will take place on February 27. Fans can watch the full award show for free on FIFA’s official YouTube channel.
