Before he completed a sensational reunion with the Red Devils, the superstar football was linked with joining their local rivals.
Cristiano Ronaldo had a “considerable chance” of joining Manchester City, according to Fernandinho.
Ronaldo’s future was a subject of intense speculations over the summer and it was becoming increasingly clear he had already played his last season at Juventus.
Manchester City looked to be the most likely destination for him towards the end of the transfer market, but it was Manchester United who won the race for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner on the deadline day.
CR7 finally returned to the club where his rise to stardom began, signing a two-year contract after completing a £20 million move.
“I think there was a good, considerable chance,” Fernandinho responded when asked how close Man City came to signing Ronaldo, speaking to ESPN.
“I think his agent was here at the club renewing the contracts of Ederson, Ruben Dias, seeing the situation of Bernardo Silva, Joao Cancelo.
“Obviously, if you’re there at the table, you can talk about everything and every possible player.
“I think that a lot of expectations were also raised with the possibility of him coming here. No doubt this ends up affecting not only the fans, but also the people inside the club.
“But in the end, things didn’t work out, he didn’t close the deal, and ended up going to the red side of town. Life goes on.”
