It is pretty much out of the question for the Red Devils to chase down their city rivals, but the Portuguese refuses to back down.

Bruno Fernandes is not yet giving up on Manchester United’s Premier League title hopes saying he will only “forget the league” when its mathematically impossible for them to catch Manchester City.

An enormous 14-point gap exists between Manchester United and Manchester City in the Premier League table.

Pep Guardiola’s side are expected to clinch their sixth English top-flight crown as they require only 11 more points from their remaining seven games to do so.

If Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are to stand any chance of beating their rivals to the title, they will have to win all their remaining eight games.

“For us, it is about improving as a team,” Fernandes told talkSPORT.

“Of course we want to win trophies, we want to win everything we are included in. At the moment, we are not at that level this season.

“We have lost a lot of games. We have lost games we don’t expect to lose and have lost a lot of points at home and away our form is really, really different. I don’t remember if we have lost one game away in the league.

“We are improving and this season is not finished. Until it is not mathematically possible, you have to believe. So when I see it is not possible to catch City, I will forget the league.”
