Bruno Fernandes has undoubtedly had a huge impact at Manchester United and this has drawn comparisons to other influential signings.

When a new player joins Manchester United, they arrive with a level of expectation to make an immediate impact on the team.

Many have tried and few have succeeded. It doesn’t matter if you were Roy Keane or Eric Djemba Djemba. Make an impact or be forever cast aside to depths of the footballing abyss.

For every Roy Keane there have been a dozen Djemba Djemba’s.

The impact of a certain enigmatic Frenchman, Mr. Eric Cantona is perhaps the one that everyone thinks of when they think about United’s most influential singing ever.

The Red Devil’s number seven of the early ’90s is credited as the signing that turned Sir Alex Ferguson’s side into Champions.

When he arrived United were struggling to keep pace with the leading pack. By the time the season was over, they had won the league for the first time in 26 years. Cantona was certainly the catalyst of a golden generation at Old Trafford.

United much like when Ferguson took over have been languishing around the also-rans ranks. However, the arrival of Bruno Fernandes has seen a significant improvement.

While Fernandes did not bring them a title like Cantona, he has brought hope. This hope has drawn comparisons with the retired club legend.

Fernandes though insists he has a lot to do before he is worthy of such acclaim and praise.

Speaking to the club’s official website he insists he can and will do more to earn those kinds of reviews.

He said:

“It’s really good for me to listen to that and to be talked about alongside such names. But for me, Cantona was an amazing player for the club and I need to do much better to be compared with him.”

“I’m really happy for what I have done, but I’m not satisfied like the coach said. Coming to Manchester is about winning trophies.”

“I came to the club to win some trophies and I will be happy at the end of this season to have one if we win the Europa League.”

Check out the odds of Fernandes and United’s chances of success in winning the Europa League.
