It may not have been Manchester United’s night against Liverpool, but Bruno Fernandes still made a spot of Premier League history.
Bruno Fernandes has surpassed Frank Lampard’s record as the highest-scoring Premier League midfielder in a single campaign ever.
The Portuguese star scored the opening goal in Thursday’s blockbuster showdown between Manchester United and Liverpool at Old Trafford.
It was Fernandes’ 18th goal in the Premier League and his 28th goal in 56 appearances across all competitions, having found the back of the net in the Europa League (5), Champions League (4), and FA Cup (1).
The strike enabled him to surpass Lampard’s record tally of 27 goals in 51 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions in the 2009/10 campaign.

According to Opta, Fernandes also has the third-best record for the most goal involvements in the Premier League for United.
The 26-year-old has made 44 goal involvements in 50 league appearances (26 goals, 18 assists). Only Eric Cantona (46) and Robin van Persie (45) have bettered this tally for the Red Devils.

Despite Fernandes’ milestone, however, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side still crashed to a sixth home defeat of the season.
Diogo Jota equalized in the 34th-minute before Roberto Firmino’s double gave Liverpool a two-goal lead in Manchester. Marcus Rashford did pull one back for United, but Mohamed Salah scored a late fourth goal to seal a 4-2 win for Liverpool.
