The Red Devils legend has named two signings that would be an ideal fit for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.
Rio Ferdinand has named Saul Niguez and Declan Rice as two ideal signings for Manchester United.
The 42-year-old believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to bolster his midfield options. He rates Atletico Madrid star Saul as a ‘perfect fit’, and added that West Ham’s Rice ‘would be a massive addition’.
Ferdinand’s remarks come after Bruno Fernandes bagged a hat-trick, Fred scored a goal, and Paul Pogba supplied four assists from the midfield in United’s 5-1 victory over Leeds last weekend.
“I think if the right player becomes available for the right price, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will go and get him,” the former Red Devils defender said on his FIVE YouTube channel.
“The problem is who is out there and who could be a good fit? Saul Niguez would be a perfect fit and he’s asking price was £160 million ($221m) a couple of years ago, now it’s more like £40-50m ($55-69m).
“In today’s game, that’s a decent price for someone like him who has Champions League experience. I’m a big fan of his. If you can get him in this window, I think you do it.
“I think Declan Rice would be a massive addition to this squad. I’m a massive fan of his. I would love to see him keep progressing.
“He was brilliant for England in the summer. I think if West Ham keep him, they’ve done unbelievably well. I think he does well staying at West Ham or if he goes.”
While Solskjaer hasn’t ruled out making any more signings, the Red Devils boss has had a solid transfer window this summer.
Jadon Sancho arrived from Borussia Dortmund in an €85 million deal, Raphael Varane has just completed his €40m switch from Real Madrid, and Tom Heaton is back following a free transfer from Aston Villa.
