The Red Devils legend has given his verdict on Paul Pogba’s future as the midfielder enters the final year of his contract.

Paul Scholes expects Paul Pogba to sign a new contract as Manchester United now have a team capable of winning trophies.

Pogba is out of contract next summer and hasn’t signed an extension. Talks between the player and club have made little progress, meaning he could walk out as a free agent in 2022.

Real Madrid, Juventus, and Paris Saint-Germain could reportedly make an offer to sign the midfielder.

But a sound 5-1 opening day win over Leeds, a game in which Pogba provided four assists, on Saturday has justified United’s title credentials in the Premier League and left Scholes confident.

“I think he’ll stay,” the ex-Red Devils midfielder told Premier League Productions when quizzed on the Frenchman’s future. “I think he will.

“When he was playing a couple of years ago in a team that wasn’t quite functioning as well as this one looks like it might do, and with the amount of attacking players he’s got, the ability he’s got, I think he’ll add a lot to this team.

“I think he’ll end up signing a new contract. If this team carries on in this manner, progressing like it is – I don’t want to get too excited – but it’s a team that can go on and win trophies and that’s what he wants to do.”

Pogba has made over 200 appearances across all competitions for United since his club-record €105 million return from Juventus in 2016. He has recorded 38 goals and 46 assists in this period.
