Ace Football previews the upcoming Bundesliga clash between FC Augsburg and Borussia Dortmund, while offering the latest betting tips, odds, and team news.
(Betfair odds above – Augsburg win/Draw/Dortmund win)
Two teams that each enjoyed a winning start to their respective Bundesliga campaigns in FC Augsburg and Borussia Dortmund go head-to-head at the WWK ARENA on Saturday afternoon.
All eyes will be on the visitors, in particular, for the clash in Bavaria. They claimed an impressive 3-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach in their league opener last weekend and plan to build on that momentum. However, Augsburg proved they’re no slouches by overcoming Union Berlin 3-1 in their respective fixture.
If last season’s 5-3 cracker is anything to go by, this fixture should be something in what will be Dortmund’s 1,800th Bundesliga match and 900th on the road.
FC Augsburg Form & Stats
Heiko Herrlich’s side have enjoyed a brilliant start to their 2020/21 campaign, with 10 goals already on the tally. They cruised to a 7-0 win over fifth-tier club MTV Eintracht Celle in the DFB-Pokal on September 12 before beating Union Berlin 3-1 seven days later.
Ruben Vargas, Michael Gregoritsch, and Andre Hahn were all on target in the latter fixture, as Augsburg began the new Bundesliga season on a high. It was only the second time the club had won on matchday one. Now it’s time to right another wrong by ending an unwanted stat of having never won both of their opening games.
Die Fuggerstadter’s poor home record may come back to haunt them, though, having gone seven games without a victory. Although they’ve pulled off upsets against Dortmund in the past, and have scored 11 goals in their last five meetings alone.
Key Team Stats
- Haven’t won last seven home games.
- Won just one of their last 10 league games against Dortmund (W1 D3 L6).
- Have scored in last 13 league games against Dortmund.
- Seen over 2.5 goals in last four games against Dortmund in all competitions.
- Have never won both their opening games in a league season.
Dortmund Form & Stats
Saturday afternoon will be a noteworthy occasion for Dortmund in that it will be their 1,800th Bundesliga match. An incredible achievement for a club, who also sit second on the all-time standings behind Bayern Munich on 2,878 points.
Without victory, however, the special occasion will be meaningless for Lucien Favre’s side. The visitors are in excellent form, having won both their games in the DFB-Pokal and Bundesliga with eight unanswered goals. It’s the type of start they needed for this season. Especially if they hope to dethrone Bayern in the league.
Keeping Jadon Sancho was a welcome boost for their title aspirations, while BVB’s other young talents like Erling Haaland and Gio Reyna have both embarked on strong starts. The former, of course, came on as a substitute last time out and bagged a debut hat-trick. Therefore, Augsburg got every reason to be sweating over this one.
Raphael Guerreiro’s possible return from injury, meanwhile, will be a tremendous boost with Dortmund boss Favre to make a late decision on his fitness.
Key Team Stats
- Won their last six league away games.
- Have scored two or more goals in seven of their last eight league away games.
- Won both their opening two league games in three of the last five seasons.
- Won six of their last 10 league games against Augsburg (W6 D3 L1).
- Nine of their last 15 league goals against Augsburg have been scored by substitutes.
