Barcelona presidential candidate has compared Lionel Messi to NBA Hall of Famer and Chicago Bulls great Michael Jordan.

Lionel Messi must be the Michael Jordan of Barcelona as per club presidential candidate Jordi Farre.

At the moment, Barcelona are officially without a president after Josep Maria Bartomeu resigned last October.

The new elections are expected to take place on January 24th, 2021 and Farre is among those in the running. Although, multiple reports from Spain are tipping Victor Font to be the likely winner.

For any incoming president, part of his potential success will hinge on what the club will eventually do with Lionel Messi.

The Argentine will see his contract run out at the end of the season and is already permitted to talk to new clubs starting January.

Should he win, Farre says he would create a ‘life-time’ project for the Argentine at the club. To buttress his point, he compared La Pulga to NBA Hall of Famer and Chicago Bulls great Michael Jordan.

“Doubting what Messi has given us is even in bad taste,” Farre said to Spanish outlet Sport.

“He has to be offered a life project. We have to turn Messi into Barca’s Jordan.

“We are working to offer Messi a project in the institutional life of the club.”

Farre continued: “We have already spoken with Messi’s environment,” Farre said. “We have a proposal. The offer is not economic.

“Leo has already made a lot of money. It is a love story. I am sure I have a project that will convince Messi.”
