The Blaugrana star’s future has looked increasingly uncertain, and a colleague of his of six years urges his captain to remain committed.

FC Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi’s troubled relationship with the upper echelons of the club structure is no news, but the new crack that appeared on it recently is.

The Argentine exploded at reporters upon his return to Spain after the international break on Wednesday as he blatantly expressed his frustration over “being the problem of everything at Barca”.

It has not even been three full months since he expressed his desire to quit the club, and the recent event is not a good indication that the prolific forward has changed his mind.

With just a year left on his contract, Messi attempted to leave for free on the basis of a disputed clause before eventually deciding to stay put.

The club record goalscorer’s future remains to be a huge question mark but Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who recently signed a new five-year deal, wants his captain to extend his stay at Camp Nou.

“It’s always an advantage to have Messi on the team because he can score goals out of nowhere – that’s what makes him so special,” Ter Stegen explained in an interview with BarcaTV.

“I hope he continues here and can be happy. You have to give him the opportunity to be above things because he’s an extremely important part of our game.”
