Talk of Messi finally leaving Barcelona continues to grow and former teammate Cesc Fabregas is the latest to share his thoughts on the matter.

Cesc Fabregas says it will be extremely difficult for Messi to call it quits with career-long club Barcelona.

Like many of us, Fabregas will be keeping a close eye on the Juventus-Barcelona fixture on Tuesday. That fixture could prove to be iconic as it might just be the last time Ronaldo and Messi might come up against each other in a competitive fixture.

Monaco midfielder Fabregas was a teammate of La Pulga during his rise through Barca’s La Masia youth academy and he also played alongside him in the first team between 2011 and 2014.

The pair won La Liga, the UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup, Copa del Rey and Supercopa de Espana titles together during the Spaniard’s stint with the Catalan giants.

Messi has been at Barca for his entire career but rumors hint at a potential departure with his contract set to expire next summer.

When asked if he thinks the Argentine will remain at Camp Nou, Fabregas couldn’t just see how that would happen.

“Barcelona is his home,” Fabregas said in an interview with Tuttosport. “They have been his team since he was little [but] they are very personal choices, I don’t interfere.

“What I myself often say to him: ‘Leo, you don’t realize how big you are’. Messi does not really have the perception of being a God of football, he is a very humble, sunny boy.

“He loves to live like normal people so much that, despite being a star, he would like to move without the security men. He also has a great heart, he is always ready to help sick children and the poorest people.”
