An aging Ronaldo remains one of football’s elites, and a teammate of his warns Portugal’s rivals to be wary of their captain.

Cristiano Ronaldo is “preparing in the best way” for Euro 2020 says Jose Fonte, who expects “nothing else but greatness” from the Portugal captain in this summer’s tournament.

After notching up 29 goals in 33 games for his club to win his first Capocannoniere, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is gearing up to help his national team defend their continental crown.

Despite having advanced into his mid-thirties, the former Real Madrid man will be one of the most exciting players to watch at the European championship.

“He’s our leader, our captain,” Fonte told of Ronaldo, speaking to Jim White and Simon Jordan on talkSPORT.

“As usual he’s preparing in the best way. He’s one of the best professionals around. The numbers speak for themselves.

“He’s still going, he’s still a beast, so expect nothing else but greatness.”

Portugal start the defense of their title by taking on with Hungary next Tuesday. Thereafter, they lock horns with Germany on June 19 and then face France five days later in matchday 2 and 3 respectively of ‘group of death’ Group F.
