The World Cup winner’s exclusion in tough times for Arsenal continues to baffle everyone, with Wilshere now weighing in.

Jack Wilshere reckons ‘big player’ Mesut Ozil would be a great asset for misfiring Arsenal attackers right now and expects the truth over his exile will eventually be made public.

Mikel Arteta has seemingly closed the book on Ozil’s Gunners career by excluding him from both the team’s Premier League and Europa League squads for this season.

The Arsenal boss took responsibility for his former teammate’s omission. He made it clear the decision was a football one that was based on being unable to bring out the best in him.

But considering Arsenal’s barren run of form, and particularly their goal struggles of late, Wilshere feels Ozil should be in the squad.

“I think he’d be a big player in that team,” the midfielder told Sky Sports.

“I would love to see Ozil play in that team under Arteta but obviously that’s not happening at the moment. He could get on the ball and feed the likes of [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang and [Alexandre] Lacazette.

“I loved playing with him. He was a top player. It’s a shame, but what is happening is happening, and no one knows but I’m sure everyone will find out one day.”

A 2-1 defeat at home to Wolves on Sunday probably strengthened Ozil’s case for a recall into Arteta’s squad.
