England’s top three players will not play the upcoming fixtures including a friendly clash against Wales on Thursday.

Ben Chilwell, Jadon Sancho, and Tammy Abraham will not play for England vs Wales on Thursday.

Consequently, Gareth Southgate affirmed their absence ahead of their friendly fixture.

Broken rules.

The trio broke major coronavirus rules by attending a party for Abraham’s 23rd birthday.

Subsequently, on Sunday evening, they pictured themselves with 20 guests. And, this exceeds certain protocols on social gathering in the event of the crisis.

However, Chelsea forward Abraham apologized later for breaching the regulations. He mentioned it as a “surprise party” and that he did not know about it.

On the other hand, Sancho posted via social media: “I would like to apologize for breaking the government guidelines and although I was unaware upon arriving of the numbers attending, I take full responsibility for my actions. I will make sure moving forward that I learn from this.”

Moreover, Southgate left Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden out of the England list after breaking COVID protocols. Though, he accepted their apologies. But will not include the trio in the squad.

In addition, the trio might also miss the clash against Belgium in the Nations League.

“I think the players have already accepted they were in the wrong,” he said. “They had broken those lockdown guidelines that were there. I have to be careful being on my moral high-horse when we aren’t in camp with the team.

“We do have an issue with the COVID guidelines and making sure any players that come in is as lower risk as possible. We are having to monitor the players, they are being tested today, and tomorrow, we have to check for further symptoms. They obviously miss the game vs Wales.”

Southgate vs Mourinho.

Elsewhere, Jose Mourinho called out Southgate by saying “Gary” several times. Though, the England coach did not take it in a bad way.

“I have to say that he messaged me anyway to apologize,” said Southgate. “I knew because he has called me Gary before, at a news conference. And had no issue with that at all – I said there is only one Gareth (Bale) he needs to get right and he will score all the goals for him this year.

“In terms of the players, we have to look after all the players. I have been a player and I didn’t like it when managers took a risk with me but they never did. We don’t want players missing any football – I’m not prepared to risk players’ welfare.”
