The Chelsea defender suffered a knee injury in his side’s win over Milan earlier this week.

Reece James is reportedly not in danger of missing the World Cup, with initial tests showing his injury is not as severe as initially speculated.

James limped off the pitch in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over AC Milan on Tuesday.

The manner of his landing convinced a number of pundits that his World Cup chances were at risk. But, initial tests have seemingly proven otherwise.

According to the Evening Standard, James will only miss one game due to injury.

The 22-year-old will not play against Aston Villa this weekend. However, the English outlet claims he could be ready to face Brentford a week later.

Cesar Azpilicueta will most likely replace James in Chelsea’s lineup for the Villa clash. But Gareth Southgate is relieved to find out that his main choice for England’s right-back spot hasn’t suffered a serious injury.

James took to Twitter after the game but had no update to offer on his situation.

“Fingers crossed it’s not a bad one,” the Chelsea defender wrote.

James has secured his place on the right-hand side of England’s defence despite heavy competition for the spot.

The likes of Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker, and Trent Alexander-Arnold have fallen behind the Chelsea star in Southgate’s pecking order. Let’s see if the club would confirm the good news on James’ injury after conducting further tests.
