The Brazilian shot-stopper has claimed to be the best penalty taker in the Sky Blues team – and he might now get a chance to prove it.

Pep Guardiola is ready to consider handing the penalty duty to goalkeeper Ederson after yet another penalty miss from Manchester City against Liverpool on Sunday.

Manchester City claimed a victory at Anfield for the first time in 18 years – and they did it in style, beating the champions 4-1.

All five goals were scored in the second half, though the deadlock could have been broken much earlier had Illkay Gundogan not fluffed his lines from 12 yards out at the 37th minute.

Gundogan skied his effort over the bar after the referee had pointed to the spot following Fabinho’s foul on Raheem Sterling.

Considering the final result, the penalty miss wouldn’t be a concern for Guardiola. However, considering the fact that his side have failed to convert three spot-kicks this season, the manager would – perhaps should – be a little worried.

City have used four different penalty takers this season as Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling have also missed from the spot.

“It’s a problem that we have,” Guardiola said post-match, via ESPN. “In important moments we cannot miss it, and it doesn’t matter the taker.

“Again, I’m going to think about Ederson, he might be the taker next time.”
