The Englishman was one of the standout performers in his side’s rout of his former side, helping Sky Blues go five points clear at the top.

Raheem Sterling got on the scoresheet as Manchester City cruised to a 4-1 victory against Liverpool.

Sterling struck at the 76th minute to triple Man City’s advantage. He only had to head home from point-blank range – which he confidently did – on Bernando Silva’s cross following a howler by Alisson Becker.

The goal was a special one for the 26-year-old as he is now one of the only three players to reach the 100-goal mark under the guidance of Pep Guardiola in his top-flight managerial career.

FC Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi, who found the net an incredible 212 times, and his teammate Sergio Aguero, who has amassed 120 goals so far, are the other players to hit triple figures under the Spanish tactician.

Ilkay Gundogan and Phil Foden were also on target in the dominating win at the home of the champions.

Manchester City have now opened up a five-point lead at the top of the table despite playing a match fewer than second-placed Manchester United as well as most of the teams.

As for Liverpool, their title defense hope is increasingly fading away as they are now ten points adrift of the Premier League top spot.
