Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland listed out his top three favourite defenders across the footballing world.

Erling Haaland has revealed who he puts on the top of the list of the best defenders in the world. During the course of last season, the Borussia Dortmund showstopper raided defensive units across the European fronts. As a result, Haaland netted 33 goals in 32 matches and won the 2020 Golden Boy award

Keeping his goalscoring skills aside, the 20-year-old acknowledges that defending is a difficult piece of art. He thus made an analysis by himself and came to the conclusion of the top three defenders in the world at the moment. Sergio Ramos, Virgil van Dijk, and Kalidou Koulibaly make it to the top three on Haaland’s catalogue of defenders.

The young star chose the best indeed.

The Dortmund star told Norwegian paper VG: “I think the best three central defenders in the world are Sergio Ramos, Virgil van Dijk and Kalidou Koulibaly. All three are very physical. But also very intelligent on the pitch.” Out of the trio, he confronted Van Dijk in last season’s Champions League group stage while playing for RB Salzburg.

Additionally, Haaland faced Napoli centre man Koulibaly in last season’s European competition in the group stage. In the meantime, the youngster is heavily connected to make a move to Real Madrid, the home of Ramos. Along with these three big names, the Norway international also mentioned some legendary players whom he used to admire.

“As a child, I watched John Carew a lot, I also followed Solskjaer and John Arne Riise,” he added. Haaland is also linked to Manchester United. And could make a new pathway in his football career if he travels to England.
