Real Madrid’s Reinier is currently undergoing a two-season loan at Borussia Dortmund. However, there have been reports he may be traveling back to Spain sooner than expected.
The 18-year-old Brazilian started 2020 with a €30 million move to the La Liga champions. With two on his first start for Madrid’s reserve team, it was time to gain some minutes at a higher level. Therefore, the teenage midfielder joined Borussia Dortmund this summer on a two-year loan deal.
Reinier is having a rocky start for the German side. He’s been a part of the team on seven occasions but only collected 105 minutes on the football field. Naturally, reports on his possible return to Madrid began flying around, as the loan hasn’t been beneficial for either sides.
However, the rumors have been dismissed by Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc.
“Basically, we don’t have that idea,” Zorc told Deutsche Presse-Agentur. “We have patience with him. I hope he has it too.”
Zorc attributed Reinier’s initial struggle with his adaptation to his lack of physical form: “He did not have an easy start with us. He came to us after a period of several months in which he did not play. And now the infection has set him back again.”
Reinier has been sidelined for two weeks after contracting Covid-19. Nonetheless, he can rest assured that Dortmund won’t be sending him back anytime soon.
