A tearful Giovanni Reyna left the pitch versus Gladbach as Dortmund missed another key player for the Europa League battle.
Borussia Dortmund dismantled Monchengladbach 6-0 in their Bundesliga game on Sunday. The Black and Yellows bounced back from their disappointing Europa League defeat against Rangers. However, an injury to one of Dortmund’s key players overshadowed their win.
Giovanni Reyna, who has missed the majority of the current campaign due to a hamstring injury, received his first Dortmund start since August. However, the USMNT star left the pitch in tears after only 30 minutes.
Fans feared a relapse of Reyna’s injury could rule him out for the remainder of the season. However, further tests have shown the forward can be back sooner than expected.
On Monday, Dortmund announced their doctors “assume Reyna will be back in the team training again within 14 days.”
In a post-match interview, Dortmund manager Marco Rose spoke about Reyna’s situation.
“Gio is really upset; you can see that in the pictures,” the coach said after the Gladbach game (via Goal).
“We’ll get the boy back, and we’ll give him all the support because we need him because he’s an excellent athlete.”
Can Dortmund come back against Rangers?
Reyna’s return against Gladbach intensified Dortmund’s hopes for a comeback against Rangers. However, his injury will leave them off with their regular options upfront.
The Black and Yellows are 4-2 behind on aggregate. However, having scored 13 goals in their last four games, they certainly stand a chance to bounce back at Ibrox.
Let’s take a look at bookmakers’ odds for the upcoming European clash.
