Lucien Favre has indicated it’s time for Manchester United to give up the chase as Borussia Dortmund have no plans to part with Jadon Sancho.

The never-ending, and quite frankly monotonous, saga of Sancho’s future continues to this day. Manchester United remain keen to pursue a deal, despite Dortmund insisting their window of opportunity has already closed.

Sporting director Michael Zorc announced over a month ago that the club’s decision to keep Sancho was ‘final’. The 20-year-old star himself is happy in Germany and recently disclosed plans to adopt a leadership role within the squad this season.

But United aren’t ready to give up on the chase yet for their top summer target despite pleas from the likes of Dimitar Berbatov to look elsewhere.

The Red Devils’ reluctance to match Dortmund’s alleged asking price of €118m for Sancho was the final straw as far as the German club’s chiefs are concerned, with head coach Favre suggesting the matter is closed.

“We need him, no question,” the Swiss told Keystone-SDA as quoted on OneFootball.

“Everyone was happy that he stayed. We don’t need to talk long about its qualities – they are enormous.

“He scores and sets up a lot of goals and can often make all the difference, but there are some details that Sancho needs to improve. That is quite normal for a 20-year-old.”

Dortmund will be in action for another pre-season friendly tonight away to MSV Duisburg in Germany, with kick-off set for 20:45 (CET).
