After terminating his contract with Atletico Madrid, Diego Costa has been offered a contract by one of Europe’s top sides.

Former Chelsea and Atletico striker Diego Costa has been offered a €3m-a-year contract’ by Portuguese giants Benfica.

The 32-year-old has been a free agent since he agreed a mutual decision with Atletico Madrid to terminate his contract in December 2020.

Costa remains without a club and could yet return to football in Portugal with Benfica reportedly making contact.

As per Goal, Benfica are ready to offer Costa a two-year contract, meaning his total package could see him earn about €6m in that period. He will also receive a transfer bonus of around €3m.

Having starred for Chelsea in the past, Costa was linked with a return to the Premier League during the January transfer window. The likes of Manchester City, West Ham and Wolves were among the interested parties at the time.

However, a move didn’t materialize and the 32-year-old has since been linked with a return to his homeland of Brazil with either Sao Paulo or Palmeiras.

The report claims Benfica is now the most preferred destination for Costa at the moment.

The Portuguese giants might be able to match his financial needs and still provide some sort of football at the elite level.

Despite his age, getting Costa at that price could come as shrewd business for a Benfica side seeking to reclaim the Primeira Liga from rivals FC Porto,
