France boss Didier Deschamps has hit out at Kurt Zouma after a video of the West Ham star abusing his pet cat went viral earlier this week.

Zouma was condemned for his behaviour, with RSPCA taking away his cats as the police investigate the Frenchman.

Despite calls for the 28-year-old to be sacked by West Ham, David Moyes opted to pick the defender against Watford on Tuesday, claiming “he is one of our better players”.

However, Zouma’s national team coach was less forgiving as he absolutely ripped into the Hammers’ star, and admitted he was “very surprised” by his player’s actions.

“I was very surprised by Kurt,” he said. “This is something that is inadmissible, intolerable and cruelty without a name.

“I’m sure he became aware of it but these images are shocking and unbearable.”

The France manager added: “I’m not a prosecutor. I am here to make selections on different criteria.

“It could have happened to me when players could have made mistakes not to select them for a while, so I will not change my way of doing things for the next list.”

Zouma has since been dropped by his sponsors Adidas as calls continue for West Ham to end ties with him.
