Ex-Juventus and Milan forward Paolo Di Canio has defended Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic after their recent clash in the Coppa Italia.

Di Canio has jumped in defence of Lukaku and Ibrahimovic after both players saw their tempers flare in a recent match.

Inter recently claimed a 2-1 comeback win against their rivals AC Milan in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals. A goal from the big Belgian and a stoppage-time winner by Eriksen cancelled out Ibrahimovic’s first-half opener.

The game was overshadowed by the brawl at half-time between Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku, in which the former Manchester United teammates exchanged harsh words and had to be physically kept apart.

Antonio Conte defended both players after the game, saying it is commonplace for tension to run high in that sort of fixture.

Regardless, both players continue to be investigated and could face punishments if found ‘guilty’, as per Sky Sport Italia.

Ex-forward Paolo Di Canio has also shared his thoughts on the matter, saying the incident has been taken out of hand.

“These things happen on the pitch, nobody is at fault,” Di Canio told Sky Sport Italia.

“We can’t be following social media or those papers or journalists who usually say all sort of things.”

“Some of them even support their team while they are writing and wish you death. They are the ones who want to explain what should happen on a football pitch.”

“It may not be an acceptable behaviour, it may not be good behaviour, but it’s a dispute, they don’t know what it means.”
