Antoine Griezmann playing in a wide role rather than his preferred central role has caused his slump at Barcelona, says Didier Deschamps.

Implementation of a new system by Ronald Koeman has seen Antoine Griezmann get shifted to a wide role in the FC Barcelona line-up.

The attacker played wide on the right in his side’s stalemate against Sevilla over the weekend, with Lionel Messi taking up the striker’s role and youngster Ansu Fati and Philippe Coutinho supporting him in the attack.

He was seen in a similar role in the 3-0 victory over Celta Vigo, and remained quite ineffective in both the matches.

Griezmann is yet to find the back of the net this season and it seems he remains unsuccessful in putting behind his struggles after enduring a poor debut season at Camp Nou.

Currently with the French national team during the current international break, the World Cup winner’s national coach believes his talents are being wasted by Koeman not playing him in his preferred position.

“I am convinced that he isn’t happy with his current situation at Barcelona,” Didier Deschamps told the media, as per Marca.

“If he was to say anything publicly then I don’t think Ronald Koeman would be happy to hear it.

“I don’t want to talk about what happens at clubs, but Griezmann is currently on the right-wing, I can’t understand why he isn’t playing in a more central role.”
