The French attacker has shown promise for Barcelona and has now revealed the reason behind it.

Ousmane Dembele has credited the coaching staff at Barcelona for his improvements both fitness-wise and tactically.

The 23-year-old has struggled to justify the €105m fee Barcelona forked out to sign him from Borussia Dortmund in 2017. Injury and disciplinary issues have clouded his spell at Camp Nou.

Under new manager Ronald Koeman this season, however, Dembele has made promising progress. And aside from a brief hamstring setback in December, he has generally stayed injury-free and featured regularly in the team.

“Physically, I think I have changed,” Dembele told UEFA.com. “When I arrived here, I was very fragile.

“I was starting as a professional at Stade Rennais and Borussia Dortmund, I was very fragile, but I have come a long way and I found fitness coaches here and everything changed.

“I received advice, when to attack, when to be calm with the ball.

“I liked to move forward only when I had the ball, and they told me to wait and try to find a teammate and not dribble three or four rivals.”

Dembele has managed six goals and four assists in 26 appearances across all competitions, including two goals and assists each in La Liga.
