After playing in two different roles for Arsenal this season, Declan Rice has lifted the lid on where he operates best for the Gunners.
Declan Rice feels his best position for Arsenal is as a No.6, where he can break up plays and intercept the ball.
The £105 million summer signing has played in two positions this season. He has primarily played as a deep-lying midfielder (No. 6). But at times, he has been deployed in a more advanced role as a No.8.
Rice also played as a No.8 in Arsenal’s 2-0 Champions League victory over Sevilla on Wednesday.
“I think my best position is probably as a number 6. My biggest strength is breaking up the play and taking the ball from deep,” Rice said to TNT Sports.
“I do get excited when I play number 8 though. I get to show the other side of my game. I didn’t stop running tonight!”
Rice continued his impressive start for Arsenal with another composed performance against Sevilla. He even won the ball in the build-up to Leandro Trossard’s opening goal at the Emirates.
“I’ve just been taking it game by game,” the 24-year-old said of the start to his Gunners career.
“I don’t want to be boring but every time I put the shirt on I try to start well. I want to do the best I can for the team. There’s more I can still add. But it’s been a good start. I’m excited for what’s to come.”
Rice has now made 17 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal. The midfielder has scored two goals and dished out two assists so far.
He’ll hope to pull off another strong display on Saturday when Arsenal face Burnley in the Premier League.
