David de Gea has been told his position as Manchester United goalkeeper is under threat from Dean Henderson.
It’s only a matter of time before De Gea loses his place to Dean Henderson, believes Souness.
The Spaniard’s position is under threat following the return of Dean Henderson to the United setup.
It was expected that Henderson would provide proper competition and perhaps even replace the ex-Atletico man as United’s No. 1 goalie.
However, the Englishman has played second fiddle to his Spanish counterpart all season.
Henderson has been limited to three Premier League starts alongside game-time in cup competitions.
In recent weeks, De Gea has faltered, and there are question marks over his spot in the United goal.
The most recent criticism comes after the Spaniard made two costly mistakes in his side’s 3-3 draw with Everton.
Based on the current look of things, Graeme Souness can see Henderson replacing De Gea as the first-choice option soon enough.
“I’m a fan of his,” he said of Henderson as per The Mirror.
“I think it’s only a matter of time. If you look at Sheffield United’s play, he’s the single biggest reason they are where they are.”
“For Man United, De Gea is making mistakes that as a manager you can only tolerate for so long.”
“If your goalkeeper is making mistakes that impacts on the rest of the team and you can bet from the outfield players there’s rumblings about De Gea.”
