The Czech FA has released a claim where they state that Cristiano Ronaldo hasn’t broken Josef Bican’s record.

Juventus and Ronaldo fans rejoiced this Wednesday as the forward became the leading goalscorer in the history of football with 760 official goals. However, the announcement didn’t please everyone.

According to Jaroslav Kolar, the Portuguese captain is still far from breaking the current record. The Czech Federation released a video where the Head of the History and Statistics Committee claims that Josef Bican actually scored 821 goals on all official matches.

In dispute are the goals that the Czechoslovak legend scored for a second division team. The Czech FA claims that Bican achieved 53 goals in 26 matches for the club.

“The FACR Commission on History and Statistics has decided to shed a brighter light on this case. Websites of renowned statisticians, RSSSF and IFFHS, state that Josef Bican has 805 goals in official matches. However, they note that in 1952, when Bican played the second highest competition for Skoda Hradec Kralove, are not included.”

Moreover, FIFA believe that the striker, who was prevented from playing for a few years due to the Second World War, actually has 805 official goals. Therefore, Ronaldo would still be several goals away from officially beating this record.

Nevertheless, Cristiano Ronaldo still has a few good footballing years ahead of him. There is no doubt that his competitive side will more than welcome the new challenge.
