Thibaut Courtois recalls the one time in 2014 he started questioning his admiration for teammate and captain Sergio Ramos.

2014 marked a special year in the recent history of Real Madrid as it was in that year that they won ‘La Decima’ – their 10th Champions League trophy.

Los Blancos had to fight hard and long against the opponent team, Atletico Madrid, to bring home the trophy.

One of the most dramatic finals of recent times was played out at Estadio da Luz in Lisbon, Portugal.

It looked until very late in the match like Los Blancos were about to submit to a 1-0 defeat to their city rivals. After several failed attempts and nervy moments, they were ultimately able to breach the Atleti defense in the third minute of stoppage time.

The match went into extra time and it was all Real Madrid thereafter as they cruised to a 4-1 win, with Gareth Bale, Marcelo, and Cristiano Ronaldo all scoring in the final 10 minutes.

Sergio Ramos was the one who pushed the match into additional time by putting a header past Thibaut Courtois.

Ramos and Courtois now play on the same team at Santiago Bernabeu, but the goalkeeper suggests he has haunting memories over being unable to stop his now-captain’s goal to this day.

“I’ve always admired him, except for on one occasion in Lisbon,” Courtois told the ‘El Larguero’ program on Cadena SER.

“It’s so important that Ramos stays, all the Madridistas this too.

“I always say to him that I want to win a UEFA Champions League with him. It’s an honor to play with him.”
