Former Italy international Alessandro Diamanti has hailed Inter boss Antonio Conte as the best Italian coach.

Inter might have improved under Conte this season but there was still a sense of underperformance under the manager this season.

After falling short in their quest to win a Serie A title and the Europa League trophy, the 51-year- old made comments that put his future in doubt.

There are rumors already growing that the gaffer could be relieved of his coaching duties this summer. Massimiliano Allegri is already lined up as a possible replacement.

Regardless of the current situation, Diamanti insists that his compatriot, Conte, is still the best Italian coach in the game.

“I only have one thought about Conte as a coach, that he is the best Italian coach. All the players he has coached confirmed this to me.” Diamanti was quoted by Fc Inter News.

The 37-year-old who earned 17 caps for the Italian national side and played at club level for Bologna, Atalanta, Fiorentina, and Palermo. He also admitted he was not shocked by the latest events surrounding Conte’s future.

“I grew up in Italy, this is the good and the bad of our football.”

“I have no idea what is behind this story, I can’t and I’m not interested in knowing”.
