Conmebol just made the most important decision in their history ahead of the Copa America during the summer. As the tournament will take place in Argentine, they informed something that will facilitate the tournament even further. With the Covid-19 pandemic, they had to postpone the tournament last year. However, they made a massive effort this year in order to prevent the same thing from happening.

According to Conmebol’s president, Alejandro Dominguez, all players are scheduled to get a vaccine. They reached an agreement with Sinovac company from China in order to secure 50.000 doses for all the players and staff. It is expected that all players take the first dose a month before the first match and right before it all begins. Keep in mind that the tournament will take place between June 13 and July 10.

Dominguez explains the decision.

During the press conference where they made the announcement, the Conmebol president explained how they reached this decision: “It is the best news that the South American football family can receive,” said CONMEBOL President Alejandro Dominguez via their website.

“I appreciate this great gesture of solidarity and support from the Sinovac company, which understood that football is a fundamental activity for the economy, culture and physical and mental health of South Americans. This is a huge step forward in defeating the COVID-19 pandemic, but by no means does it mean that we are letting our guard down. We will maintain our responsible work, which allowed us to conclude our tournaments smoothly and without altering the formats.”
