Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner will be at the Stamford Bridge as Chelsea look to improve on their 4th place Premier League finish.

Frank Lampard underwent a baptism of trials in West London. Being in Chelsea’s dugout is never an easy task and the Blues legend learned it.

His return to Stamford Bridge saw Chelsea under a transfer ban and only youth team players to reinforce his numbers. To add to his woes, Blues best player Eden Hazard left for Real Madrid.

Despite overturning the ban, there were no first-team additions. The 2019/20 season was completed with the same core of players.

With the 2019/20 campaign in the rearview, Chelsea have added Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner to their ranks. While Willian has left the club to join Arsenal.

The Brazilian’s departure leaves a dearth of leadership at the club. But it should not be a problem according to Ashley Cole.

Cole played with John Terry, Frank Lampard, Branislan Ivanovic and Didier Drogba. He knows how important leadership is to a dressing room.

The retired defender believes Werner and Ziyech have enough years under their belt to provide leadership on and off the pitch.

“Although the new players that have come in are young, they’ve got experience of playing Champions League, they were stars of their team,” Cole told ESPN

“They can give that leadership off the pitch and on it as well because we had a lot of leaders when I was a player here.

“They led by example not just by talking, but with their feet, which I feel is more important. People can talk. It is easy to talk, but when you are backing it up with quality performances, that’s what makes the difference.”

Werner and Ziyech will not be the only additions made by Chelsea. Kai Havertz, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva are also strongly linked with a move to the Blues.
