In an attempt to help him wake up from another slumber, Andy Cole opened up about Anthony Martial’s inconsistency at Man United.

It was just last season when Anthony Martial delivered one of the best second halves of a season in his entire career with no inconsistency. The French forward made a fantastic attacking trio next to Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood. They even became one of the most feared offensive lines in English football but something went wrong. Between the end of last season and the start of this one, Martial hasn’t made his appearance yet. This level of inconsistency can’t be accepted from a Manchester United player who wears the number ‘9’ jersey. This recent behavior falls right in line with what we’ve seen from Martial throughout his career. The Frenchman had us fooled once again, he made us think he was finally reaching his peak as a professional but we were mistaken.

Cole demands more from Anthony Martial.

During an interview, Andy Cole revealed how frustrating Martial can be sometimes. The former player doesn’t know what it’s like to be that inconsistent as he showed throughout his career.

“If he gives you consistency game in, game out every season I don’t think we’d be having this conversation about whether we need a No 9,” Cole told Goal

“One week he can be absolutely fantastic and then another week it’s like ‘what happened to him?’ It’s like his twin brother is playing.

“I think it’s a mentality thing, I really do. He’s at a good age now, he knows better. He’s a very good player. But he knows he should be doing it week in, week out. At Manchester United, there are no weekends off because everyone wants to beat you.”

“I like all of them, especially at the back end of last season. Scoring goals, creating goals for each other, they’re young and dynamic. I don’t think you can ask for much more unless the person you’re looking to bring in is going to take them to the next level as well.”
